Jake21 asked: How do they make 1911 Grips?  Are they all handcarved or something?

Cutting 1911 grips on a CNC mill

Answer:
Hey Jake....nope they sure aren't handmade. Or at least I should say, not ALL 1911 grips are handmade. Most are made via machines. It's pretty cool process....we've come a LONG way man.

Check out this video on how they make 1911 Grips.

MADJACK, I’m really considering it, it’d take a significant change in programming because this mill is so wimpy. each panel would take a long time. Any specific checkering that you’d want? PM me on the boards if interested, I need to pump out a few sets in wood before I do Al.

Its a Sieg X2 that I retrofitted to CNC.
IN my opinion, its way too small, I’ve done some serious work with it but its been a pain. Look at the X3 or bigger.

These ones are birch, I have some black walnut, mahogany, and maple that I’ll be making more out of. This is basically a practice run.
